Vibha Interview @ Books Inc with Martha Gies
Come join Vibha Akkaraju as she converses with Martha Gies, author of Broken Open (Trail to Table, 2024), a memoir told in 18 essays. The discussion and reading will take place in person at Books Inc, Mountain View, on Friday, Oct 25, at 7 pm. Gies has been writing, publishing, and teaching in Oregon for more than 50 years. Her previous book, Up All Night, was called “a fine example of living, breathing oral history,” by Booklist, and “intriguing” and “stirring” by Publisher’s Weekly. More info here.
Poetry by Reena Kapoor
Member Reena Kapoor presented her poetry at the 2024 South Asian Literary and Arts Festival (SALA) held at Stanford on Saturday, September 28th. Plus, two of her poems were selected and published in the recently published Redwood Writers 2024 Poetry Anthology called “One Day”. The anthology is available on Amazon.
Laurel’s Interview on Latest Fault Zone Sparks Views
At our September 21st meeting, Laurel Anne Hill asked those who had not already done so, to listen to the Independent Press Award's interview with her. The interview was conducted by Gabby Olczak and covers Laurel's work with Fault Zone, her three novels and her writing history. The YouTube views have now reached 1.5K! Carol Peyser at Feldman’s Books
Carol Peyser will star at two upcoming events at Feldman's bookstore in downtown Menlo Park, interviewing two senior genetic counselors from Stanford on October 15 and Dec 6. These relate to her debut novel hopefully in She Writes Press. Dancing With Fate centers around fraught matters of whether we humans want to know our genetic futures (as well as other themes). The first speaker specializes in testing for cancer genes but will also cover general caveats and cautions. The second will talk about testing for neurologic diseases like Alzheimer's and Huntington's disease (both with no cure so do people at risk want to know?) Carol will also share about the journey to her novel. Link to get tickets.
Carolyn Curtis’ short story
GreenPrints published another story by member Carolyn Curtis in their current issue, Summer 2023 (No. 134). This is the third story of hers they’ve published.

James Hanna’s story, “Blow-Up Bella,” appears in A Thin Slice of Anxiety. This story is about a loser with the ladies who bonds with an inflatable sex doll.

James’ story, “A Second Less-Capable Head” appears in The Chamber Magazine. This tale is about a Tea Party activist who one day discovers that he is growing another head.
