Benefits of Membership

We are a writer’s community. We exist for you, the writer: whether you’re beginning your journey, an experienced and published veteran, or pursuing our beloved craft for personal enjoyment. We care about your journey — wherever it takes you.

Our goal is to help writers in ways helpful to their individual writing goals.

Not ready for membership? You can still attend meetings and …:

  • Meet and network with other writers like you.

As a member, you can:

  1. Meet club members to share, learn, and talk about writing. Writing need not be an isolated exercise. Connect with poets, novelists, short story writers, memoirists, bloggers, playwrights, scriptwriters, and more.

  2. Promote yourself, your books, and other writing.

  3. Discover the ins and outs of how to get your work published.

  4. Submit your creative work to our award-winning Fault Zone anthology series.

  5. Find, join or form critique groups through the branch website. 

  6. Spread your writing-related good news: events, publications, articles, interviews, and more.

  7. Connect with our New Member Coordinator and Critique Group Matchmaker who will help you make the most of your membership.

  8. Learn to share what you have learned about your craft. Present your approaches to our acquired craft and experience to the public in our generous Writers Helping Writers program, organized in association with the Palo Alto Library and San Mateo Library.

  9. Participate in our Open Mic and Shut Up and Write sessions.

  10. Participate in the annual San Francisco Writers Conference as volunteers.

  11. Take part in CWC-sponsored bookstore events and readings.

  12. Submit your work to the CWC statewide annual publication, The Literary Review.

  13. Receive The Literary Review and The Bulletin as a member benefit.

  15. Volunteer to enhance and deepen your experience in the writing world as well as within the Club.
