Meeting was called to order at 7:01 PM, Monday, June 10, 2024.
Members present: Geri Spieler, Tim Flood, Sue Barizon, David Harris, Vanessa McLaren Ray, Alisha Willis, Megan McDonald, Margaret Nalbach, Eva Barrows, Miera Rao,
Minutes - The minutes for the May meeting were approved.
July Picnic Update - Sue
Date: Saturday, July 20th, noon to 3:00 at Beresford Park (The Shelter), San Mateo, for members and plus ones. Evites went out to the members on June 13th.
The Club will host lunch (Pancho Villa), beverages and dessert.
Election of Officers - David
The slate of officers to be voted on at the June membership meeting: Vibha Akkaraju/President, Eva Barrows/Vice President, Alisha Willis/Treasurer and Nirmy Kang/Secretary.
Webmaster – Megan
Megan discussed an updated resources page for the website. Tim suggested acknowledging Riena’s extensive contributions to the link. Geri mentioned Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts available to writers. A short demo of the website at the next meeting was suggested. Discussion regarding accessing Submittables for FZ for members only.
Treasurer’s Report – Alisha
Alisha presented the Treasurer’s report - ending balance of $10, 547.87.
Alisha is in the process of transitioning the PayPal account from Tori Hartman’s name (past CWC member) to Alisha’s name for smoother access.
Fault Zone – Vanessa
July 1st is the opening date for Fault Zone submissions.
There was discussion regarding the link for Submittable being offered to current members only who are in good standing. This would be accessed through the News Blast but NOT the website to avoid non-members submitting.
Membership status checked by FZ committee prior to accepting submissions.
CWC State Report - Geri
Geri reported that at the most recent meeting of the state board there was a change in statewide Policy and Procedures. The board will allow the secretary and the president to be from the same CWC branch. This does not apply to the president and the treasurer, they must be from separate branches.
Programs – Eva
Eva talked about setting up a workshop for self-publishing. She is still trying to find one or two speakers for the program.
October 26th - target date self-publishing workshop.
The Board agreed that Eva would be a good speaker for a future membership meeting to speak on the topic of editing.
There was some discussion regarding challenging situations with difficult members/attendees.
Sue asked for input on the May speaker. Comments included a low content and low energy delivery from the speaker.
New Business – Vibha
There will be NO Board or monthly membership meeting in July because of the picnic.
The Board Retreat will be at Vibha’s home, again this year. Vibha will send out a query for a date mutually agreeable.
The next general monthly membership meeting will be on Saturday, August 17th.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:05 PM.
